Be Ready for Redemption in Marvel’s Ant-Man
“Second chances don’t come around all that much. So, the next time you think you see one, I suggest you take a real hard look.” This line from Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) in Marvel’s Ant-Man really sums up the theme of the movie: Redemption.
Marvel’s Ant-Man
Have you ever been given a second chance? Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
“It’s not about saving our world; it’s about saving theirs.” – Hank Pym (to Scott Lang about their daughters)
Dr. Pym has a problem to solve and believes that Scott Lang is the solution. Scott has the motivation and desire to do something good. He needs redemption in the eyes of his young daughter, Cassie. As Pym puts it to Scott, he is “running out of options” and Lang knows he needs to do this in order to see his daughter sooner. Therefore, the training begins and Ant-Man is set to make a comeback.
Both Pym and Lang have daughters that are desperate to reconnect with their fathers. The men want to make things right and are begging for forgiveness. Pym says of his daughter, “Hope used to look at me like I was the greatest man in the world. Now she thinks I am the biggest disappointment.” He knows that Scott still has the power to heal the relationship he has with his young daughter. Not only are they fighting to save the world, but they also want to salvage the father/daughter relationships they hold dear.
