Finding Happiness in Simplicity of Childhood : OshKosh B’gosh

The holidays may be my daughters’ favorite time of year when it comes to fashion. There are so many fabulous events and reasons to dress up… and they really enjoy the idea of it. Not to mention, the simply find joy in the time together that the holidays inspire.
Finding Happiness
Most people think Colby and I are crazy for having 5 kids. Some days we might agree with them. But when we see the relationship between our children, we know that all is well. Each child brings their own personality to the family, yet as sisters (and brother) they make up such an incredible dynamic. Our teenagers are inseparable in spirit. When one needs a friend that immediately reach out to the other. Our younger three are the same. These three girls are best friends and simply living in the joys of childhood… together.
For example, when shopping at OshKosk B’gosh recently, the girls went straight for the holiday styles.
After browsing through each of the styles, they began to pick out the ones that best fit their personal fashion sense. Amazingly enough, we only had one item that 2 girls chose but it was an easy switch. The shimmery shawl collar cardigan had its own almost sister-version, the gold shimmer cable-knit cardigan, so we simply bought both. The girls could interchange and share. Another simple joy of having a sister… who wears the same size as you.
As soon as we got home they could not wait to try everything on. I followed them around the field behind our house and caught them sharing moments of joy and laughter. Instead of posing them, I was candid in my shots and watched them explore and react on their own. I wanted to remember how it was to see life through the eye’s of a child and to capture their responses. Childhood should be about being happy. Simple. Full of joy.
As I watched them twirl, run, walk and discover, I was immediately drawn back to the days of those sort of carefree moments of being a child. Jaden’s choice of a OshKosh Original cotton graphic tee embellished with “Glitter Makes Me Happy” perfectly fit her creative, easy-going style. The button-front chambray layered over it kept her warm, while the tulle skirt dressed up her outfit for holiday gatherings.
She finished off the look with a pair of lace-up ankle boots with shiny little stars. Boots are her thing… so they provided the ideal complement to her already fantastic outfit. We even grabbed a 6-pack of sparkle hair clips for the girls to share and round out their look with glitter.
Jaci, our little fashion diva, picked a red taffeta skirt to style her choices around. Gold foil glitter dots on a long-sleeve tee quickly caught her eye and then we layered it with the shawl collar cardigan mentioned above. Just below the tee we found the glitter ankle boots.
She was set. Loved the look and was excitedly happy about her newest style. Not to mention, it was the fastest I have ever seen her pick out an entire outfit! (Well done, OshKosh B’gosh!)
Joeli, our youngest, is a little easier. She loves the simplicity and free-flowing feel of dresses. She picked the navy sparkle pin dot dress and an adorable cable-nit cardigan with gold shimmer to match the dress. Although we did not find her shoes to match her dress on this trip, her sisters had OshKosh hand-me-down shoes in her size that worked perfectly.
Since we have been longtime customers of OshKosh B’gosh, Joeli often gets to continue the fashions of days past through the clothes her sisters pass down. She doesn’t mind at all. They are still bold in color and look good as new due to the durability of their clothing.
When you have 5 children, this is definitely an essential aspect to saving money by the way. Clothes that last!
Overall, you can see that we had a wonderful time preparing our holiday styles. We found the latest trends for all three girls at OshKosh since they carry sizes, for both boys and girls, from 0 to 12.
We still have a couple more years of shopping there with our girls so that really makes me happy!
