Q&A with Jennifer Garner about The Odd Life of Timothy Green
Throughout the past year I have had the pleasure to talk to a handful of celebrities either on the phone, in person, or via webcam. Each one brings a new level of excitement and being invited to chat with Jennifer Garner yesterday was no different.
Q&A with Jennifer Garner
But, I must admit that it was definitely one of my favorite interviews so far. She was so down-to-earth and real… and she was more excited about talking with us bloggers than we were with her. She was great and completely transparent in her answers.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green
Jennifer Garner began by talking about why she even decided to do the film. She mentioned that she loved the “realism” and that it was a script she could relate to as a sister, daughter, and a child… as well as a parent.
This opened up the doors for a great conversation and she answered questions easily as they began to flow. Read through some of what Jennifer Garner had to say below. {Answers are a bit paraphrased based on my notes I had to quickly jot down during the interview}
Q: What was your favorite part of Timothy Green?
Getting to know both CJ {Adams} and Joel {Edgerton}. We bonded and felt like a real family.
Q: What has been your favorite role so far?
I love all of the movies I have played in but all for different reasons… I love the variety and it would be hard to choose one as a favorite. {She did come back to the question later and decided “13 Going on 30” was perhaps her favorite overall}.
Q: What helped you get into character for The Odd Life of Timothy Green?
I worked with an acting teacher and she told me that I have lots in common with this woman and I should just use it.
Q: What should the audience take away from this film?
I want the audience to be entertained. Kids think the movie is for them. Parents think the movie is for them. It’s a great family movie.
We should live in the moment more and judges ourselves less.
Q: How was it working with CJ Adams?
It was fantastic! CJ is a special kid. He is so wide-eyed, upbeat, and trusting. He is a great friend and I miss him a lot. I love him.
Q: If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?
Well, they would have to be dead. Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln. Someone who changed history. Like Thomas Jefferson. I want to ask him about the declaration of Independence and what was it like being there.
Q: How do you juggle motherhood and career?
I do not work as much as I used to and try to pick roles that enrich my spirit. We work with Save the Children to help kids in poverty grow.
Q: How did you like working with Joel Edgerton?
He is really smart! Joel is just somebody you really want to hang out with!
Q: What is one piece of advice you would give a new mom?
Take it easy on yourself. Someone once told me, “Everything is a phase.” Just get through it and don’t try to fix everything.
Q: How difficult was the lightning flash scene?
Oh, it was very difficult! Difficult!
During a technical glitch, Jennifer took the time to address us:
I love hearing about mommy bloggers and how you are really taking over… and you should be proud of it! I love to hear how you are taking the power into your own hands. And there are a lot of you! Congratulations to all of you!
And my favorite candid moment was when she explained that her kids aren’t perfect. She basically went on a small {fun} tangent about how she is in New York with the baby and her girls are home with her husband. They are, of course, perfect for him though.
Again, she was so transparent and humble. Real and just beautiful. I look forward to watching The Odd Life of Timothy Green again and again… as well as any new projects Jennifer Garner may have coming out in the future.
Make sure to see The Odd Life of Timothy Green in theaters starting today.
