Sitting down to dinner with our family always brings something different. Our kids are full of character–each and every one of them–so mealtime with all 8 of us is rarely boring. But, with the whole family here, we also have to make sure we have plenty of food to go around.

One of my absolute favorite parts about family meals, in addition to the conversation, is preparing the food with the kids. All of them enjoy being in the kitchen and helping in some capacity.

Unless there is a huge holiday meal or party to cook for you don’t typically catch all of them in there at once. But, at least two or three. And I absolutely love it.

The little hands are excellent for kneading dough, cutting cookies, mixing and more. Not to mention, my budding photographers like to take pictures as we prep.

Hey, as long as they want to learn a great skill… especially one that will help me out in the end… I say, “Go for it!”

Plus, with the versatility of Pillsbury® products available at Walmart, there are so many delicious recipes you can create with the family.

We love finding new ways to enjoy our favorite ones.

Therefore, when we got together recently for our Christmas Pajama Party, we had pasta and Christmas Garlic Pull-Apart Bread.

We have made variations of a monkey bread type of recipe using the Pillsbury® Grands before, but wanted to try something a little different for the holidays.

Therefore, we decided to use the Pillsbury® Crescents to create a Christmas tree to add a holiday element to our spread of appetizers.

Joeli helped me roll the pieces while Jaci took pictures. Turned out great on all aspects!

Ingredients:

  • 1 can Pillsbury® Crescents (Original or Garlic Butter — we used Original)
  • 1 cup finely shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese
  • 4 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder (or 2 cloves, minced)
  • basil
  • marinara sauce (optional, for dipping)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Open can of Pillsbury® Crescents on clean work surface and roll flat. Pinch pieces together and then use a pizza cutter to cut into equal squares (or simply separate into triangular pieces).
  3. In bowl, combine cheese blend and cream cheese.
  4. Take square of dough and flatten out. Add a small ball of mixture to square and then fold corners in. Roll in palm of hands to form a ball. Place each ball onto cookie sheet in shape of a Christmas tree.
  5. Melt butter and add garlic. Set aside.
  6. Let bake 10-12 minutes and then remove from heat. Using a pastry brush, swipe melted garlic butter across the top of each ball.
  7. Bake about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven.
  8. Brush remaining garlic butter over the form and sprinkle with basil, to taste.
  9. Serve with a small bowl of marinara sauce. Enjoy!

See how easy that was?! And it’s perfect for making with the kids.

Joeli had a great time with the dough and helping me to flatten out each square. She quickly determined how much cheese mixture to put into each square and had fun.

Not to mention, once the Garlic Pull-Apart Bread was served it was gone in no time.
