Basically, are you excited for fall? I know my oldest daughter can hardly wait for autumn each year. In fact, she made sure to grab her Pumpkin Spice Latte the first day it went on sale.
She is one of those people.
And, that’s fine. Personally I’m a summer gal, but I would definitely put fall in the second spot when listing my favorite seasons in order.
We get a bit of a reprisal from the warm temps here in Dallas and some of my favorite family activities seem better during the fall season.
Not to mention, it’s football season! (Yes, I am admittedly one of THOSE people)!
No matter which season you claim as your favorite part of the year, what is your take on delicious desserts? How about traditional recipes that elicit fond memories of holidays past?
I feel like that’s something pumpkin pie does for a number of people. For instance, my husband remembers his mom making a homemade pumpkin pie every Thanksgiving.
He recalls the creamy texture and smell of cinnamon that filled the air as it baked.
Although not my first choice when it comes to pie, give me a homemade apple pie any day, but I love the idea of helping him relive the traditions of his past.
So, we found an easy pumpkin pie recipe that is as similar to the one he remembers from his childhood as we could find.
The best part, again, is really how simple it is.
Plus, a dollop of whipped cream on top is a great way to add a bit of flair and flavor to each slice.
Want to make your own topping? That’s another simple recipe:
- 1 pkg cream cheese
- 1 cup whipped cream
- ½ cup powdered sugar
Blend the three ingredients mentioned above and drop a dollop on your slice of pumpkin pie and enjoy!
- 2 cups pureed pumpkin
- 2 eggs (beaten)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cups brown sugar
- 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
- 1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 cup butter (melted)
- 1 pie crust
- Preheat oven to 350°F
- Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well.
- Pour pumpkin mixture into ready pie crust.
- Bake for 60 minutes or until set through.
