Do your kids love to read? Mine enjoy reading, but probably not as much as I would like them to. I love books. I was the child that always had her nose stuck in a book when I was younger. Well, I take that back. I am STILL that person. I read as often as I can and challenge my kids to do the same.
Creative Ways to Read
Over the summer, without required reading in front of them, it becomes a real test. Last summer I gave the girls a reading challenge with a cash incentive that seemed to start off great! As the summer dwindled, so did their participation. Therefore, we are joining YouTube Kids in their 30 Day Challenge. By creating fun ways to encourage reading over a 30-day period, the habit of opening a book can better be established. And, hopefully, we can begin to foster a real love for books that last a lifetime.
On a mission to get young viewers excited about reading, YouTube Kids is partnering with publishers, authors, musical artists and top creators this summer. These partners have contributed over 100 new and original reading-related videos largely focused on a format called kinetic typography: the art of integrating text with movement.
A few of these featured partners include:
SpacePOP — Lose yourself in the world of five teenage princesses. They disguise themselves as musicians and form a band called SpacePOP to save their home planet and spread the message of freedom and joy through music. Sounds like the best kind of girl power to me! Designed for ages 8-12, the all-new channel from Genius Brands includes music videos as well as a series of digital shorts coming alongside their new music on iTunes and Spotify and book launching July 26th.
Freckles — Kyler England and Lalo Crane started a band together, and as their families grew, decided to focus on family-friendly music — inspired (and approved) by their toughest critics/most appreciative fans: their kids. Be sure to check out their adorable Reading is Magic video.
Simon & Schuster Kids — From book trailers and author interviews to fun and educational videos, parents, teachers, librarians, and readers will find what they have come to know and expect from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing. On the SimonKIDS YouTube channel — imaginative stories and informative content that foster a love of reading for kids of all ages.
Look through the incredible YouTube Kids app and find channels and videos that best fit your child’s interests. Get them excited about reading!
