Parental Controls and Feedback Options Set YouTube Kids App Apart

Disclosure: We attended a YouTube hosted breakfast during our stay in New York City to learn more about the YouTube Kids app.

While in New York for the KidzVuz Back to School Bash, Colby and I were also excited to have a nice breakfast with YouTube. High atop a fabulous rooftop terrace overlooking the New York skyline, we were able to sit and talk with a team about the amazing YouTube Kids app. With a house full of kids who adore their videos, this is important as a parent.

Not only were each of the team members a delight to talk to on a personal level, but they were very knowledgeable and open to conversation about the app. As they gave us more information about the YouTube Kids app, they also listened to our feedback about what we liked and disliked. The ability to have a voice with such an important audience was an overwhelming experience. The breakfast was too short to really take it all in, but they were quite excited about keeping the lines of communication open. As a parent and avid YouTube user, that meant everything!

Now, on to the YouTube Kids app. Is your family using it yet? It is actually the “first Google product built from the ground up with little ones in mind.” Yes! It was designed especially for kids. The app makes it both safer and easier for kids to find videos to watch based on what they want to see. Not to mention, the concept is designed to keep kids from seeing videos that are inappropriate for little eyes and ears.

In fact, the app features Parental Controls that include:

  • Timer: Limit kids’ screen time with a built-in timer that you control. The app will alert your child when the session is over, so you don’t have to.
  • Sound settings: Parental Controls give you the option to turn off background music and sound effects, so your kids can keep watching while you get a little peace and quiet.
  • Search settings: Limit your children to pre-selected videos available on the home screen by turning off search.
  • Product feedback:You will find a space specifically for you to give YouTube Kids your feedback. As I mentioned above, they are very open to your feedback and want to keep the conversation open.

The YouTube Kids app is free and available on both Google Play and the App Store, as well as a variety of kids’ tablets. I am looking forward to learning more and continuing the conversation!
