Disclosure: I am joining the Summer Adventure Mom Blog Challenge with Michaels and received a gift card for my participation. No other compensation was given. All opinions are 100% my own.
Do you have any big summer plans? A vacation perhaps or simply soaking in the sun with the family. Do any of your plans include unplugging? You know… just taking the time to unplug and reconnect with your kids this summer.
Unplug and Reconnect
Think of all the ways you can unplug and reconnect this summer. In fact, I even made a list of 101 summer activities recently in order to encourage myself to step away from the computer more.
Michaels is asking me… and you… to take that a step further. They are asking that we take their Unplugged Summer Pact.
Unplugged Summer Pact
The Unplugged Summer Pact simply says that you pledge to cut back just 2 hours a day. 2 hours that you will spend completely technology-free and dedicated to creative activities. Or at least spend doing something without a cell phone, tablet, computer, TV, etc., in front of you. And honestly, what a better way to get your creative juices going than a trip to your local Michaels Store.
Michaels is North America’s largest arts and crafts specialty retailer. Anything you can think of can be found within the walls of your local store. I walk in and am immediately inspired to make something amazing. The supplies, custom frames, decor… there is so much to see and create.
Passport to Imagination
One way Michaels is helping to kick summer boredom, and help you keep your pact, is with the Passport to Imagination educational craft classes. Through a 7-week series, children ages 5 and up can take a trip around the world by way of various projects. Beginning June 17 and continuing until August 2nd, 2013, in all U.S. stores, passengers join a worldwide voyage to learn about the seven continents and their cultures, wildlife and landmarks.
“Kid explorers” will meet up to three times a week at their local Michaels classroom. Classes are available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for 2 hours, from 10am to 12pm. The classes are only $2 per child and per session. And all supplies are included. Plus, the 1st 50 travelers at each store to sign up for the Passport to Imagination will receive a free tote bag.
During the session time, each child will work on 2 crafts… one to keep and one to swap with friends. After class, the fun and learning can continue at home using additional projects and instructions found on the website. Of course, all supplies needed for at-home projects can be found at Michaels before you leave the store. I mean, $1 per hour with 2 crafts and tons of fun learning? You just can’t beat that!
I cannot tell you how excited my girls are for these classes to start! They have already taken a look at each of the 7 weeks and made me a list of the days they DO NOT want to miss. I love that we will be able to find the time to focus on them and something they thoroughly enjoy. Both girls love to do crafts and I have no doubt they will enjoy learning how to do more during these sessions.
Plus, since we are a homeschooling family, the learning will continue as they explore each of the 7 continents of the world. Landmarks and icons will be explored as they journey around the world… and fun will embark on each leg of the trip.
How do you plan to unplug and reconnect this summer?
