Trinity River Wind Festival

Trinity River Wind Festival

The 5th annual Trinity River Wind Festival will take place this Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The festival is presented by the Trinity Commons Foundation, the City of Dallas and long-time sponsor, Sprint. This year the event is also joined by the Dallas Police Department with their service units.

Colby and I were able to take the girls a few years ago and had an incredible day learning about kites and how to properly fly them. We were able to learn from Japanese Kite Makers that did not let a language barrier stop them from sharing their passion for the art. They were genuinely kind to the girls and helped them fully understand the science behind the structure of the kites as well as how to really fly a kite. There’s so much more to it than just throwing it in the air!

In addition to the amazing Japanese Kite Making Booth I mentioned above, with kite styles from Sendai, Japan, you can also experience these free all day events:

  • Free Kite Giveaway (while supplies last)
  • Public Kite Flying & Kite Making
  • The Walt Disney Studios’ Showcases Moana®
  • Kid’s Fun Zone with Bounce Houses and Face Painters
  • Dallas Police Department Units

The sky will be filled with wonderful kites in beautiful shapes, sizes and aerial feats provided by Troy Gunn and Team TKO International Stunt Kite Flyers and Gayle Woodul and Christian Baden Powell of Go Big or Go Home Show Kites. Mr. Christian Baden Powell is a world renowned kite maker who won the 2014 Grand Championship at the AKA Convention in North Carolina, and Gayle Woodul brings their giant inflatable kites to “wow” the crowds. Dallas Area Kitefliers Organization supports the festival and adds to the wonder of the day with their spectacular kite flying.
