I’ve partnered with TB Blood Test and DiMe Media to share this important information as to why it’s important to schedule a TB blood test for your children. After all, as parents, we would do anything to keep our kids healthy and safe. Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious disease that kills about 1.5 million people each year worldwide.
TB Blood Test
We can sit back and think that “it will never happen to my child,” or we can be proactive. Personally, I take every effort I can to make sure that my children remain as healthy as I can control. Today, there is a blood test that can help diagnose tuberculosis infection that is a major scientific advance over the 110-year-old skin test we were given as children. This new test gives us greater accuracy and a more reliable result. Because TB stays latent and silent before becoming active, the TB blood test is more reliable in identifying individuals with latent TB who will soon progress to active TB, especially in children.
With only a 3ml draw of fresh blood, the TB blood test can diagnose those with latent TB infection. By catching the infection early, before it blooms into an active disease, it can save lives — possibly those around us. Just look at these stats on TB:
- 30% of humans are infected
- a new infection happens every 3 seconds
- every 21 seconds, someone dies of TB
- 37 million lives have been saved between 2000 and 2013 through identification of infection and treatment
Again, I fear surprises such as this when it comes to the health of my family, especially my children. The following are factors to help determine who should be tested:
- have been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with TB
- have recently come from a country with high levels of TB
- have a reduced immune system
- are starting certain types of medications
Don’t think you or your children are not vulnerable. Catching the infection early means more treatment options. Schedule a TB test for your children today.
