Travel Through Victorian Time Period at Sci-Tech Discovery Center Eyellusions

One reason we choose to homeschool our children is because of the ability to learn through doing. Being able to actually see and touch history is a huge part of our curriculum. On our travels, we visit museums and science centers in order to teach them all we can. But sometimes we don’t even have to go far. Nearby, the kids were able to visit Sci-Tech Discovery Center and its new Eyellusions Exhibit.

The Eyellusions Exhibit takes you on a journey through the Victorian time period to explore the amazingly vast world of illusions. Through the use of Victorian-era clothes, props and exhibits, you are transformed into another time in history. Magic was the most common form of entertainment then and the Sci-Tech Discovery Center has done an incredible job of bringing the era to life. The show helps to breaks down the science behind misconceptions and make-believe by using original and interactive displays.

The exhibits include:

  • The Alice in Wonderland Ames room — a place where guests can enter and look big or small depending on their position in the room
  • Movie theater — vintage-looking theater with a stage for magicians to perform and where the short “Rescue on Mars” will play, emulating old cinema techniques and showing you how simple some practical effects can be recreated at home
  • The Incredible Zoetrope – an 8-feet wide pre-film animation device where 12 wooden horse sculptures actually appear to be running
  • Time machine – guests can enter the exhibit and seem to disappear before the audience

If you are looking for a new experience, one that transports you to another time and challenges your logic, stop by the Sci-Tech Discovery Center in Frisco.
