As you can imagine, living in a house full of girls, when I saw the official trailer for Pixar’s Inside Out, I felt like it was my life. Yes! Exactly this. Not to mention, I have an 11 year old that goes through these exact emotions several times a day. Therefore, attending the #InsideOutEvent at the end of the month is going to be perfect!
First, let’s all get on the same page as far as what this movie is about:
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
Now, those of us who are female, or have females in our home, work, life, know how this goes, right?! As I mentioned, with 4 girls, I live this daily. Oh the emotions! Sadness, anger, disgust, fear, and joy. Every.day. In fact, I asked my daughter Jaden, the 11 year old, to make me a video to represent just one situation she faces it daily. Yep, this was pretty much spot on:
Honestly, I probably went through a similar emotional roller coaster ride… with the exception of anger. Who could be angry about all of the amazing things we will be doing:
