I distinctly remember the night I first heard Sam Hunt’s song, “Take Your Time.” Colby and I listen to music each night as we work and I thought he had switched stations on me. We always listen to Country. This was not the country music I was used to.
Sam Hunt brings a fresh sound to classic country beats. His unique style draws in a broad range of audiences and simply isn’t “your momma’s” country music.
I say this because that is what I grew up on. I was the girl who was “country when country wasn’t cool.”
Therefore, my first impression of the song was not favorable. Now, I am totally on the Sam Hunt groupie train… right alongside Colby and our 9 yr old, Jaci.
But that’s just what I am saying!
Let’s learn a little something about who Sam Hunt is:
Sam Hunt’s debut album Montevallo (which I can verify is AUH-mazing) on MCA Nashville topped the Billboard Country Albums Chart in its first week and is the best-selling debut album for a country artist since 2011.
The album has been named the Best of 2014 by Associated Press, Billboard, Los Angeles Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, SPIN Magazine, Village Voice and The Washington Post. The lead single “Leave The Night On” is RIAA-certified Platinum and is Sam’s first No. 1 as an artist. “Take Your Time,” Sam’s current single, is quickly climbing country radio’s Top 10 (because it rocks).
Sam is also a celebrated songwriter. In addition to all the tracks on Montevallo, his credits include Kenny Chesney’s No. 1 “Come Over,” Billy Currington’s No. 1 “We Are Tonight” and Keith Urban’s Top 10 “Cop Car.”
Spotify named Sam the Cycle 5 winner of its Emerge program – a first for a country artist in the all-genre competition. Sam joins Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Atlas Genius and Bastille in the ranks of former winners.
He is consistently one of Spotify’s top-played artists in the U.S. across all genres.
After making his TV debut on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, Sam has since performed on ABC’s Good Morning America, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Live! with Kelly & Michael, CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Sam has performed at the Bonnarroo Music & Arts Festival, SXSW Music Festival and has toured with David Nail, Little Big Town and Kip Moore.
Following Sam’s sold-out, first-ever headlining tour, the Lipstick Graffiti Tour, he will join Hunter Hayes and Lady Antebellum on this summer’s Wheels Up 2015 Tour.
