There are actually several products that are recyclable in your bathroom. From the sink to the toilet to the shower, you can help the environment by simply sorting and properly disposing of empty containers. For instance:

  • Shampoo bottles: plastic bottles marked #1 (PETE) and #2 (HDPE) are generally both recyclable; typically includes conditioner, lotion, baby powder, body wash, and oils
  • Paperboard: toilet paper rolls as well as cardboard boxes and cartons fall into this category
  • Medicine caps: often made from plastic #5, caps can be left on bottles for recycling

The following items CANNOT be recycled:

  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste tubes
  • Dental floss containers
  • Pumps on bottles, such as soaps and lotions

Just by remembering to consistently recycle shampoo bottles, you can make a huge difference. There are enough 15 oz. shampoo bottles thrown in landfills each year to fill 1,164 football fields! It only takes a minute to rinse the empty bottle and toss it in a recycle bin. Find more recycling solutions near you.
