Stepping Inside the Recording Booth for Disney Planes: Fire and Rescue
Well, I don’t plan on quitting my day job any time soon… but I had a blast in the recording booth at Disney Toon Studios. Since this was my 3rd visit, I knew the guys (Casting Director, Jason Henkel, and Sound Engineer, Paul McGrath), knew how the process worked, and was able to feel a bit more comfortable going in. That does NOT mean I could do this “in real life.” Julie Bowen rocked the part of Dipper in Disney Planes: Fire and Rescue so we will leave that to her.

I am sure people believe that doing voice-over work seems easy. No way! Think about it. It’s typically just you… maybe someone else in the room reading through the lines at your side. But, instead of being able to fully act out the way you want to portray your feelings and such with the use of body language, you are fully restricted to your voice. Everything else the animators handle further into the process. So… no pressure, right?!
I will tell you more about how Julie Bowen got in character next week, but first it was my turn in the recording booth. Luckily, I had my friend Crystal from Simply Being Mommy in the booth with me. That made it even easier to laugh at myself. Really! It totally helped! They picked the craziest scene for us to voice and it included a ROAR. Not just any “roar.” A loud, full-out ROOOOAAARRRRRR! I have never had to roar like that in my life. So that made me extremely nervous.
But, when it came down to it I gave it my best shot. I had Paul McGarth and Jason Henkel directing me the whole time and that made it go smoother. A little pep talk and advice along the way meant I was able to overcome my inhibitions and just let it out. Sorta. Have a listen/watch. Remember, I am playing Dipper for this scene:
What did you think? My family loved it… but they may be biased.
Have you ever stepped inside a recording booth?
