National Diabetes Awareness Month

It seems ironic in a sense that November is National Diabetes Awareness Month… or perhaps intentional. With Halloween rounding out the month of October, it seems fitting that Diabetes Awareness should take center stage. My paternal grandmother, my Juelita, had Type-2 Diabetes for as long as I can remember. She used to sneak candy when she could and like her tea very sweet. Today, my dad fights his own battle with the disease and is maintaining his sugar levels through a healthy diet. He is not insulin dependent and we pray that he can remain that way.
