Did you know that an estimated 2.7 million healthy shelter pets are not adopted each year? In fact, only about 30% of pets in homes come from shelters or rescues. Overstock.com and NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations present Clear the Shelters—a nationwide pet adoption drive on August 15, 2015 to help find new homes for thousands of homeless pets.
Clear the Shelters
The very first family pet we had came from a shelter. When we were still a family of four, we decided we wanted a dog for the kids to play with and love. After a trip to our local shelter, we came home with a Black Lab the kids named Miles. He was full of energy and great with the kids. They loved running around the backyard with him and he even enjoyed a swim in the pool. Miles brought the kids years of enjoyment. Today, our oldest daughter has two Chihuahuas, both from local shelters. Now, you and your family have the opportunity to participate in Clear the Shelters with no-cost or reduced fee adoptions.

Clear the Shelters was initiated last year in the Dallas-Fort Worth market as a partnership between NBCUniversal-owned stations NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth/KXAS and Telemundo 39 Dallas-Fort Worth/KXTX and dozens of North Texas animal shelters and resulted in the adoption of more than 2,200 homeless animals. This was the most homeless animals adopted in one day in North Texas. Let’s do it again this Saturday!
