One of my favorite parts about blogging is the research. I absolutely love research and love to learn. Therefore, when I was given the opportunity to review lynda.com I was so excited! The library of wealth available on the site is incredible. In fact, there are currently 1,506 different courses to take. Wow! And you learn on your own time at our own pace. lynda.com offers courses in several different fields, from 3D animation to email marketing and video editing… with plenty in between. The possibilities are vast and wide. And one cool feature is that you can not only view the courses from your computer, but you can also download the mobile app and learn on the go. I was able to learn from both my iPhone and iPad when I was sitting and waiting for an appointment or had a few minutes before bed. Like I said, learning on your own time.

What kind of courses are you most interested in? I am trying to learn more about Social Media Marketing so that is where I decided to start my online learning journey. There were so many avenues to explore and I simply began diving into the courses. The very first thing you need to do once you sign up is start adding courses to your queue. This helps you build and prioritize a list of courses you want to want and an track your progress through them. I may have got a little carried away with adding movies to my queue… but there were so many I was excited about learning.

Once you build a queue, you are then ready to start working through the courses. Simply pick one of the courses from your queue and get to work. The first tab you will find is the table of contents. This is a list of all of the included videos for that particular course. Another great feature is that even though a course may be 5 hours long, it is broken up into smaller, more manageable sessions. That way, you can easily watch a 5-10 minute long video at one sitting and then do it again a little later. It makes the courses easier to follow along and keeps you on the path to finishing with ease.

Next, simply select the session you want to listen to from the table of contents. A video will open where you can quickly begin your online learning experience. Each video is typically 4 to 10 minutes long. Essentially, they break up the courses into easy to swallow fact-based nuggets of information. You can easily work through the course by going down the table of contents one-by-one, or you can jump around according to your interests. In some of the courses I discovered that I knew many of the basics, thus I could listen to the sessions that best fit my needs. This, again, made lynda.com completely personalized to me. Exactly what I needed. Plus, if I could not listen to a session, there were transcripts available for reading through and staying caught up.

Finally, after working through the courses, you can obtain a Certificate of Completion. Although this certificate is not the same as a degree program or software certification, it can be shown to employers as a completion credit. All courses are eligible and are free to use with your membership.
