Ant-Man Paul Rudd and Abby Ryder Fortson

Acting in Marvel’s Ant-Man Simply Makes Abby Ryder Fortson Happy

Disney disclosure

Ever wonder what it’s like being 6 years old and acting beside Paul Rudd? During our set visit to Marvel’s Ant-Man in November, we were able to sit down for a chat with Abby Ryder Fortson who plays Cassie, Scott Lang’s daughter. She was completely adorable and a real ball of energy in the hot seat.

After watching Abby and Paul for a while on the monitors during filming, we were able to get an understanding of how it is to work with children on the set. The particular scene they were filming was Cassie’s birthday party. This meant that Abby had an important role to play and was quite busy that day with scenes. But she did it so well! What a trooper she was. Plus, when she came out to talk to us she had no reservations.

In order to make Abby feel comfortable, we opened the conversation with easy questions such as, “what’s your favorite Disney princess?” Her answer came as to surprise no any of us (especially right after Halloween): Elsa. Isn’t she every young girl’s favorite right now? Oh, but speaking of Halloween, since the Elsa costume was too expensive, she went with as a scary witch!

Once Abby knew we were harmless in our questions, she played with a few props while we got down to more conversation. She had the perfect answer when asked what her favorite part of acting was… ACTING! I mean, that has to be the best part, right? When asked in a bit different way she did say that she enjoyed being all different kinds of people. Now that does sound like a lot of fun!

Speaking of different people, we had to ask what it was like working with Paul Rudd. Abby was a bit animated in her answer. With a little twirl of her fingers, she said Paul was actually “coo-coo.” We got a close up look at the dynamics of her relationship with him between shoots. When the camera wasn’t rolling, she would ask Paul for a kiss and cuddle up next to him on the couch waiting for that call for “action!”

The first time she saw Paul in the Ant-Man suit she thought he looked “really cool.” In fact, Abby was even able to put on one of his gloves while in wardrobe. She said it was big with the fingers all the way up her arm but seemed excited about having the opportunity. But, she did make sure we knew it was ll pretend. No magical powers bestowed her when she put on the glove. Abby did proclaim Ant-Man as her favorite superhero though… with Black Widow up there as well.

Abby Ryder Fortson is no newcomer to filming. She began acting when she was 4 years old and both of her parents are actors as well. Plus, she was sure that her younger brother will one day act as well. For now, she is simply focused on school, playing and her next project coming up! Her advice to children who want to act?

…”practice like three weeks ahead so you get [the lines] down.”

It sounds easy enough, right?! Our final question for Abby was how it felt for her to watch herself on the screen. Again, another perfect response, ” I feel happy.”
