Disclosure: I’m talking about how to talk to your daughter about her period thanks to Playtex® Sport® as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #PlaytexSportSquad.
Back in the 80’s when I was tween, yes, I’m “old,” things may have been a bit different for us girls in the world of puberty. Not physically. That will always be the same. But I believe the information and products we had were a bit different. Judy Blume’s book, “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” was a book of knowledge for young girls back then. Today that wisdom comes from other avenues… including myself. Those that have “been there, done that.”
Lessons Learned From My Period
It’s truly a remarkable thing — the menstrual cycle. Recently I discussed the basics of how to talk to your daughter about her period thanks to a partnership with Playtex® Sport®. Talking to my girls about their period became a natural thing beginning with my oldest daughter when she was 4 years old. I always told myself I would be open and honest with any question the kids brought to me… and her inquisitive nature brought this question to the forefront at 4.
She was not happy to hear about the basic details I laid before her. In fact, she cried and told me she never wanted to grow up and have kids. I get it. It’s not a fun thing for us gals to go through. At all. But, over the years, I have learned a few lessons from my period that I can now pass on to my 4 daughters to help lighten the mood about them a bit.
- All tampons are not equal. Okay, this is more of an important “need-to-know” fact. Playtex® Sport® Tampons & Liners Combo Pack offer two kinds of Sport® Level Protection™ in one convenient package. When you are active participating in sports or other physical activities, it’s vital that you are still able to move freely. Only Playtex® Sport® has a 360°™ design and FlexFit™ technology that moves the way you move. So, no, my girl friends, all tampons are not created equally.
- Cravings are normal. I KNOW when that pesky period is coming because I feel as though I haven’t eaten in weeks! At least since the week before my last period. Why is this? Your body uses more calories during the time right before, and in some cases during, your period. This increase in calories makes your body burn more calories during this time, and as the calories as burning you’re going to feel hungry more often. It’s normal, Ladies!
- Menstrual synchronization is real. Okay, it may not be scientifically proven, but living in the house with 4 daughters, I fear this when my younger three become “of age.” We have definitely found it to be true with my oldest daughter and I. How it happens no one knows. But it seems misery loves company and periods like other periods. No idea. But don’t be surprised if it happens to you and your friends. Simply be prepared. (See lesson #1 about the Playtex® Sport® Tampons & Liners Combo Pack for prepping).
Although times have changed, a few things remain the same. Girls still have periods and we still want to remain active. Maybe even more so now than in past generations.
In addition to the Playtex® Sport® Tampons & Liners Combo Pack, you may want to try the Playtex® Sport® Ultra Thin Pads with Wings for non-tampon days. They still feature the FlexFit™ design so the pad moves with your body and a patented technology pulls moisture away and allows air circulation. Whatever it takes to keep going and continue on with your normal routine. After all, you are stronger than your period!
