Disclosure: Warner Bros. provided us with The LEGO Movie Cloud Cuckoo Palace to facilitate this review. Regardless, all opinions and thoughts are 100% our own.
I may have a house full of *mostly* girls, but that does not mean The LEGO® Movie is not on our list of movies to see. In fact, my girls have been excited ever since they saw the trailer at the movie theater. When I asked them if they wanted to take the #LegoMovieChallenge and build their own Cloud Cuckoo Palace they screamed with excitement.
The LEGO Movie
Considering The LEGO Movie Cloud Cuckoo Palace includes a few key characters, including Emmet and Wyldstyle, the girls were excited to get building. They made sure to open the box with care so they could have it to look back on as needed. Each bag of LEGO blocks and pieces was opened and spread out to see everything at once. Each girl decided on which minifigure they would build and began gathering their respective pieces.
My 8 year old, my biggest princess of them all, went directly for Wyldstyle, Unikitty and the snail. She found that Unikitty was her overall favorite to put together simply because of its uniqueness. Plus, it was pink. And the “unicorn” horn was the perfect finishing touch.
As my 10 year old worked through building the actual Cloud Cuckoo Palace, she began to discover the fun hidden within its structure. The multi-colored twirling discs amused her as she built and the flower catapult became her favorite. In fact, she shares a bit about the palace and its features in this video.
I was delighted at how well they worked together and split up the pieces as they figured out the kit. The included instruction book and picture on the box were instrumental as they built. Every detail from the red stud tracking device on Emmet’s leg to the fresh flowers caught their attention. And the flower pot catapults that sent flowers soaring through the air were easily everyone’s favorite feature. After all, Emmet and Wyldstyle were up against Executron and had a palace to defend!
Watching as they interacted and used their best teamwork into their LEGO build, I, too, was proud of the accomplishment they achieved. Both sported their new LEGO t-shirts proudly and decided that our 10 year old could hang the movie poster on her wall. Perhaps we should try other LEGO kits?! They seem to bring out the best in our girls! Ha!
Which building kit from The LEGO Movie are you most excited to put together?
The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
The LEGO® Movie, the first-ever, full-length theatrical LEGO® adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures, opens in theaters February 7, 2014.
