Growing up in a family of both mechanics and auto body men, I have a love for cars. In high school, one wall of my room had nothing but car pictures from top to bottom and side to side. My friends often drove muscle cars or other classics autos like T-buckets and such. We often frequented a drive-in diner where the cars were lined up for viewing and Chocolate Dr. Pepper was the drink of choice. I grew up with lots of boys and have always had an affinity for great cars.

2012 Honda CR-V

You can just imagine the excitement I felt when I was invited to Carlsbad, California, a few weeks ago to test drive and view the new 2012 Honda CR-V. I could not wait to see the new Honda and meet the amazing team behind the vehicle. Today, Honda is launching its newly redesigned sleeker, more efficient and technology savvy 2012 CR-V. This fourth-generation CR-V is the most fuel efficient, high-tech model yet. New innovative features and a smoother, quieter ride are designed to exceed customer expectations of the entry-level SUV.

Having only driven larger SUV’s prior to this, the 2012 Honda CR-V actually surprised me once taking a look inside. I did not expect the smaller SUV to be so roomy. The back cargo area is relatively large and has plenty of room to carry everything you need. Plus, the back seat was spacious and had plenty of leg room for even the longest of legs.

Plus, being a mom that still needs 3 car seats at the moment, I did notice 3 sets of LATCH systems across the back seat. Now, I am not sure that all 3 would fit comfortably, but I did like the option of having them all in the vehicle.

CR-V 60-40 Split Rear

Once inside the car, I began playing with all the fun buttons and gadgets. My favorite feature, other than dual air for the driver and passenger plus heated seats, was the Pandora Internet Radio interface. This feature comes standard with the CR-V and allows any iPhone user to quickly and easily plug in and stream music through the vehicle’s audio system. In addition, there is also an SMS text feature that can read incoming text messages and even respond with 6 preset text messages through compatible phones. It brings a while new meaning to just “hands-free!”

CR-V Front Seat

Actually, the Bluetooth®2 HandsFreeLink® phone interface, also standard on all models, offers an intuitive hands-free calling convenience on top of the texting feature. There were so many great technological gadgets included in the vehicle and this gadget-girl was loving it!

CR-V Pandora and SMS

When it was my turn to drive the car I immediately noticed the comfort. Being behind the wheel was exhilarating. It was such a smooth drive and easy to handle. Driving on the California highway was more delightful in this new, aerodynamic designed SUV. There was minimal to none vibration and the noise was considerably less than other vehicles I have driven. The vehicle was easy to maneuver and just fun to drive.

Furthermore, the new ECON operating mode and Eco Assist feature {causing a usual white light to change to green} increases the potential for drivers to improve the vehicle’s fuel efficiency when the systems are activated and utilized. Thus, we hit the ECON button a few times to check the difference in power and get-up and noticed a bit of difference in the ride, but overall saw its efficiency.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The whole Honda team was amazing to meet and so much fun to hang out with. It was easy to sense the camaraderie among the group and being able to talk to the R&D team behind the vehicle was eye-opening and entertaining. We were treated like royalty for the few days we were together and I cannot explain the sense of pride I had in just attending. I made some great new friends and am looking forward to more opportunities like this one in the future. But, even more importantly, I am ready to see the new 2012 Honda CR-V out on the road! Get to your local Honda dealer on or after December 15, 2011, and test drive the new CR-V! You will not be disappointed!
