When I think about the traditional Mexican meals I enjoy, I can’t think of a single one that doesn’t include a side of refried beans. In fact. my dad insists on having beans with every meal.
Refried beans are a staple for breakfast, lunch and dinner in Mexican dishes. Now, Herdez® Instant Refried Beans make it even easier to prepare your family’s favorite dishes at home with home-cooked taste in a restaurant quality serving.

In just 5 minutes, the new Herdez® Instant Refried Beans can be on the table and ready to eat. In today’s busy world and need for instant gratification, that means convenience!
Plus, you can find the refried beans in four great flavors to suit any of your mealtime needs:
- Traditional
- Jalapeno
- Chorizo
- and Queso
Personally, I like the Traditional flavor best, but the Queso is perfect for many of the recipes and dishes we serve.
Not to mention, I can boil hot water on the stove top, pour in my choice of Herdez® Instant Refried Beans, grab a bag of tortilla chips, and be on the couch watching TV with delicious bean dip in 5 minutes!
As a matter of fact, refried beans are incredibly versatile in the kitchen. They can be prepared with any meal; served as a side dish or used in a recipe: Frijoles con Todo!
As I mentioned above, straight out of a bowl works for me! Of course, paired as a side with my favorite Tex-Mex Enchiladas is not a bad way to enjoy them either.
Another one of our family favorite’s is a Mexican Pizza. It combines all of the superb flavors of a taco into a baked pizza recipe.
In under 15 minutes, you could easily have a meal on the table. The most challenging part of the recipe is choosing which flavor of the new Herdez® Instant Refried Beans to try!
The girls enjoy Traditional in their pizza, but Colby and I like to mix it up. Just like with a normal pizza in a large family setting, it’s always nice to have options.
And with the ease and convenience of prepping this recipe, you really can add variety by offering different refried bean flavors.
Once you’ve made your bean choice and prepared them according to the package instructions, preheat the oven to 350°F.
Brown a pound of hamburger meat and mix with taco seasoning; set aside.
Take 2 flour tortillas per Mexican Pizza and spray both sides of each one with a cooking spray.
Heat on a skillet over medium-high heat.
Next, lay half of the cooked tortillas on a baking sheet and spread refried beans across each one.
Layer the taco seasoned meat on next, then top with another cooked tortilla.
Spread a bit of salsa across the top and sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over each pizza.
Bake for 6-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
Garnish with green onions and diced tomatoes and your ready to serve!
See? Easy, convenient and full of flavor!
