Japanese Kite Maker

Are you looking for a budget-friendly, super fun activity to do with your kids this weekend? I have a great idea! Take them to the Trinity River Wind Festival tomorrow, Saturday, May 18th. Colby and I were able to take the girls along with us yesterday as we got just a tiny sampling of the fun to be had.

Kite Flying Relay Contest

Yesterday, I was able to team up with the North Texas Food Bank in a whirlwind charity event. Each team of two competed in various events throughout the afternoon to earn points. We had a scavenger hunt, kite decorating contest, kite flying contest, and parachute relay. Boy oh boy, that parachute relay reminded me how long it had been since I ran. Wow! It was a chore… but all the fun just the same. In fact, the girls brought a couple parachutes home to have their own relays.

Children’s Medical Center took home the big prize of the day ($5,000)… and we were able to grab $250 for the North Texas Food Bank. In fact, because the NTFB was represented by two separate teams, they were able to receive $500 for their non-profit. My amazing teammate told us that is still substantial in it will buy 1,500 meals! Love that I was able to have a small part in that!

Trinity River Wind Festival

Now tomorrow, at the Trinity River Wind Festival presented by NRG, you will be able to have a fabulous time with kites and much more. One of my girls’ favorite part of the afternoon yesterday was spending time with the Japanese Kite Makers that were out there. These guys were amazing! And so very kind to the girls. The language barrier did not stop them from interacting and sharing with my girls. It was an incredible cultural experience for them!
