Growing up, all I ever wanted to be was a Pediatrician. Knowing that would require years of schooling and several tuition dollars, I chose to get my core classes out of the way at Dallas Community Colleges. Doing so allowed Colby and I to pay for my tuition without amassing large student loans. Today, our oldest daughter has been able to do the same.

Dallas Community Colleges

Dallas Community Colleges can make dreams come true with education for in-demand jobs and training to move you up in a career or get you into your dream career. Cheyenne is finishing up her last year in community college with an Associates Degree for Business Marketing before transferring to a university. Going this route has been the best financially for both she and her husband. They have both been able to keep working and be flexible with their class schedules. Not to mention, they will move onto the next chapter of their lives without school debt hanging over them.

For Cheyenne, as well as for myself, Dallas Community Colleges proved to be a more cost-effective way to earn credit for the first two years of college and then transfer to a university. In my case, I never went on to medical school. The two years I spent in the Dallas County Community College District were enough to help me get a job after getting married and having Cheyenne. The education and experience I gained during my years there have brought me to where I am today — a successful small business owner.

As parents, we all want the very best for our children. I have overheard Cheyenne talking to her friends in larger universities about classes they are taking and the money they are spending. I believe community colleges are too often overlooked because they provide higher education that actually gets you hired. Just look at the program areas offered at Dallas Community Colleges in which grads make a high salary:

  • Interactive Simulation and Game Technology (game design)
  • Digital Forensics
  • Geographic Information Systems Technology (GIS)
  • Computer Information Technology
  • Welding
  • Nursing
  • Radiologic Sciences
  • Diagnostic Medical Sonography
