Last week we were invited to attend a VIP Event at the new Coyote Drive-In Theater in Lewisville. Colby and I had taken the younger three girls to their location in Ft. Worth a couple summers ago, but this was the first time for our older kids to experience a drive-in movie.
Coyote Drive-In Theater
From the moment you arrive, it’s definitely a different experience than your traditional movie theater. After purchasing your tickets, you are still directed to a certain “theater” space, but you are already in your seat. Your car becomes your personal movie-watching pod with surround sound coming from your own car speakers. Tune into the radio station on the screen and turn it up to suit your movie experience. Or, if you prefer, roll down the windows and listen in to the speakers available at Coyote Drive-in Lewisville.
Plus, if you want to step out of your vehicle, there are several comfortable lawn chairs just in front of the 75″ X 55″ screen from which the drive-in movie comes at you.
We loved the idea of backing into our spot, opening the back end of our SUV and lowering the tailgate of our son-in-law’s truck, then piling in to watch “Doctor Strange.” There was plenty of room for everyone, we could hear the movie fine, and enjoyed the nostalgic feel of watching movies with the family! Colby and I both grew up going to drive-in movie theaters with our families, so this was amazing to share with our kids!
Let me give you the details of the new Coyote Drive-In Theater in Lewisville so you can understand how incredible the event was!
This Lewisville location became the third drive-in for the franchise with the one on Ft. Worth and an additional location in Leeds, Alabama. The newest location currently has five screens featuring the highest quality digital projection and screen technology and they plan to install a sixth screen by next year. Showing the latest feature movies, the drive-in theater accommodates over 1,500 cars. The owner actually traveled around the United States researching technology to find the best of the best — and it truly shows in the quality of the graphics you see on the screens!
In the center of the grounds stands a Canteen – a restaurant and bar pavilion with indoor and outdoor covered seating for 300 guests, fitted with ten high-definition big-screen TVs. Also within the Canteen area, patrons can enjoy hand-crafted pizza, burgers, wings and tenders from the full-service kitchen in one hand and the traditional concessions like giant pretzels, churros, popcorn, candy in the other. Coyote Drive-In Lewisville also prepares Sno-Cones and Cotton Candy on site and has a Merchandise Shop. And to top it off, the theater is one of the first in Texas to carry Pepsi Spire 5.0 drink systems, a state-of-the-art refreshment dispenser with over one hundred Pepsi flavor combinations to choose from.
Gates open at 5:30 PM and showings begin just after sunset, with two showings per screen per night. Ticket pricing is as follows: $8 for ages 12 and over, $8 for ages 5-11, and free for kids ages 4 and under. The dog-friendly theater also offers live music on weekends – spanning a wide range of classic rock, country and pop hits– and a playground for the kids. Come out and see what all the chatter is about!
