Okay, Parents, did you know there is another option for our children when it comes to straightening their teeth? An option that is just as effective as traditional “brackets and wires,” but not as invasive. Invisalign Teen® is virtually invisible and comes without the restrictions of metal braces.
Invisalign Teen
We recently went to the Orthodontist for Invisalign consultations with our three middle children. We were sure that our 9 year old would definitely need treatment, but would most likely be too young. With 9 baby teeth left to lose, we were correct. Our 18 year old did qualify, but his teeth were not really bothering him and the fixes were minimal. That left our 11 year old, Jaden.
Jaden qualified for Invisalign Teen based on a few things going on inside her mouth:
- Twisted teeth: she actually has 4 or 5 teeth that are twisted in a direction they should not be
- Overbite: although not as bad as some, her upper teeth do protrude out further than her bottom teeth
- Narrow arch: it seems her arch is not spaced or open quite as it should be
All in all, they may seem like small issues but that can add up to big ones. I was so surprised to see the twisted teeth. It wasn’t something I would have noticed had the orthodontist not pointed out, but definitely interesting. Plus, we found her one last baby tooth that HAD to come out. It was pretty much growing right on top of the permanent tooth pushing it out of it’s place.
A trip to the dentist for that extraction has us prepped and ready for her Invisalign Teen treatments.
While in treatment, it is two times more likely for teens using Invisalign Teen clear aligners to experience a boost in self-esteem than teens wearing traditional braces. Teens wearing Invisalign Teen are 68% less likely to be teased than those wearing metal braces.
In addition to the reasons Jaden qualified for Invisalign Teen, there are other common reasons for treatment that includes:
- underbite
- spacing due to missing teeth or based on a cosmetic/aesthetic issue
- crowding
- openbite
- mismatched dental midlines
