Affordable Holiday Outfits

I have a 7 year old diva that must look great anytime she leaves the house. And beautiful dresses are her favorite thing to wear. We call her “Princess” and she wears her title well. Big ball gowns and shiny, sparkly tops are what she would spend every day in if we let her. Therefore, when she has a chance to dress up she likes to go all out! This is why I love the affordable holiday outfits for children at Cookie’s Kids. Plus, Cookie’s is family-owned and currently celebrating 40 years in business!

In 1972, a young man named Cookie and his brother Marvin went into business together. They rented a 1600 square foot store in Jamaica, Queens, fixed it up, bought inventory and Summer and Fall, and opened a day after Thanksgiving with a full stock of holiday toys. The toys were a success and they put the extra money toward buying children’s clothing for the next season. When that did well, they bought more clothing. The business was on it’s way.

As the brothers Cookie, Marvin and Sonny, who had come in as a third partner in the business, began to open new stores in new locations, inventory expanded. Besides the latest fashions, our customers wanted shoes, toys, backpacks and accessories and they were prepared to deliver.

By the late 1990’s there were six superstores throughout the NYC area, and though they previously had different names, by that time they were all named Cookie’s Kids. Also in the late ’90s came an important addition to Cookie’s Kids’ inventory: school uniforms. It was the steady success in uniform sales that paved the way for founding in 2007, which originally sold uniforms and soon after the entire Cookie’s Kids Inventory.

Finding a holiday dress for my diva was only going to be difficult due to the large selection of fabulous dresses we had to choose from.

As I mentioned, my little girl likes to wear big, sparkly gowns. Therefore, I had an idea of what type of holiday dress I was looking for as I perused the Cookie’s Kids site. First, knowing I wanted it for Christmas pictures and the Christmas Eve church service, I was looking specifically for a red dress. Sorting through their selection is easy with filters along the left side of the site.

After finding a variety of beautiful dresses, I began to look at each one closer to determine which one would best fit her. Going back and forth and back and forth, I had to call  in for help. I asked my husband to help me make a choice and his decision was actually very quick. First, the dress that was a close second to the one we chose… notice the sparkles of the Sugar Plum “Olivia” Dress.

After much consideration, on my part, we chose the Sugar Plum “Kennicott” Dress. The sequin accents on the ruffled bodice are simply stunning. The sash around the waist adds the perfect accessory and the tulle lining under the skirt is amazing. When the dress arrived Princess put it on and could not stop smiling… or twirling. She absolutely loved it!

We also found a Faux Fur Shrug that was perfect for throwing over her shoulders. Its Peter Pan collar and 1-button closure made it a great accessory for her holiday dress… as well as several others dresses she already owns. She thought the shrug was the coolest thing ever and enjoyed showing it off.

I was thrilled to see it was the perfect fit for her. Using the Alva Kids icon near the size choices, I was able to input Princess’ height and weight, as well her body and leg proportions. The app then assisted me in making the best size choice for my skinny, long-legged daughter. She and I both cannot wait to see her twirling away this Christmas in her new Cookie’s Kids dress! Last year’s selections from Cookie’s Kids were a big hit and I am sure this one will be as well.
