Day 8: As a parent, we often tell our kids they need to eat their food because there are starving kids in Africa that would love to have it. Well, I actually tell my children to eat because there starving children just down the street or around the corner. Honestly, my kids have been those starving children before. We have taken our family downtown to serve food to the homeless to not only share our blessings, but to show our kids how blessed they really are.
Families all over the world struggle to know where their next meal will come from. Children go hungry while others waste. This hurts my heart to know. With our large family, we rarely ever have leftovers. I hate waste and we have learned to cook “just enough.” If anything is thrown out it is typically not enough to be a full serving for anyone. The kids understand the importance of knowing there is food in the fridge or pantry. How? Because they have been here when there wasn’t. Life lessons are not easily forgotten.
God always provides just want we need and we try to take no more than that.
