If you are thinking it is time to take the leap from your speedy little sports car to a family SUV, chances are you want a vehicle that drives more like your car than a 4 wheel box.
The 2022 Mazda CX-9 might be exactly what you are looking for. It isn’t as large as some of its competitors in the same class it is upscale with stylish design and quality materials, making it one of the best full-size SUVs.

And the driving experience is excellent. Let’s take a closer look at this classy SUV.
Performance and Fuel Economy
While many SUVs of this size and class boast of a V-6 engine, the 2022 Mazda CX-9 is still a turbocharged 4-cylinder. The reason for this is to increase fuel economy. The front-wheel drive version earned an EPA estimate of 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Despite the smaller engine, the CX-9 can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 7 seconds. The steering is responsive, and the suspension feels solid. The one disappointment is that this lighter SUV falls short of towing capacity compared to SUVs with V-6 engines.
Interior Cabin and Cargo Space
The 2022 Mazda CX-9’s interior cabin impresses with premium materials and detailed styling. The seats are comfortable and the ride is quiet. The Grand Touring and Signature trims take the styling up a notch with plush interiors.
This is a 3-row seat SUV with a 2nd-row captain’s seat option. Yet, the 3rd row seats are a little tight. Except for that, I think this is still the best full size SUV in its class when it comes to the interior.
The cargo space is easily expandable by folding down the 3rd row. If you want to maximize the storage, folding down the second row can accommodate up to 25 pieces of luggage.
Infotainment and Safety
All of the 2022 Mazda CX-9 SUVs come with a user-friendly infotainment system that has a 10.3-inch display screen. The system is easy to navigate and the graphics are clear.
There is also the Mazda Connected Services suite that gives you remote access to vehicle status, remote start, and remote key operation. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and a wireless smartphone charging pad are all standard features.
The safety and driver assistance suite is state-of-the-art. Features include adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
The 2022 Mazda CX-9 might be the best full size SUV for its price point of around $41,000. There are plenty of trim packages to choose from.
